Shapefile Data Disconnect

Using our the ESRI shapefile version of StatPlanet, we uploaded shapefiles for U.S. Congressional districts. We also compressed them with MapShaper to make them load quicker. The problem is that at times the data seem to not be connecting to the shapefile and we end up with a map that is completely grey with one singular data point as a giant dot off to the upper left. The problem is intermittent and appears on Firefox, Chrome and IE browsers.

The URL is here:

I feel like somehow the shapefile and attribute table are not linking up properly. Thoughts?

Hi Felicia,

It appears that there is an issue with the map.dbf file (http://www.civicyouth.org/maps/CD-2014/map/map.dbf). It may work again if you switch it with the original map.dbf you were using prior to simplification when you setup your shapefile map. The settings.csv file is looking for a column called 'GEOID' in the map.dbf file which doesn't exist, but should probably exist in your original .dbf file of the map.

I hope that helps, if you need more details just let me know.

Frank

Frank - I do think indeed that was the problem. Thanks.
