Tracking links from map

We love the StatPlanet software. It has allowed us to provide information that prior had been locked away in spreadsheets so thanks.

We have been able to added Google Analytic tracking code to the HTML page that the map is embedded on and that works great. However, we also want to track links to pages / documents from various map elements. Currently these are not being tracked and we were wondering if there is a possible solution.

So fore instance, when you go to our map here:

http://www.civicyouth.org/maps/elections/

This gets tracked by Google Analytics, because we were able to put code on that HTML page.

However, when I double click on a state, say Iowa, the link to that PDF (http://www.civicyouth.org/maps/elections/PDF/IA.pdf) does not get tracked.

Do you have a recommendation on how this might be resolved?

We have talked to the company hosting our site and they have a PHP script work around they think might work, but before we attempt that, I wanted to check here first. I didn't see anything when I searched the forum so am posting now.

Hi Felicia,

Thanks for your message. There is an Analytics module (please see http://www.statsilk.com/software/add-on-modules) which tracks each time a map area / state is clicked, but it does not specifically track external links (so far there was no client need for it). It could be added but that would require a custom development, for which I could send a quote, but perhaps you might first wish to try the PHP work around?

Best,

Frank

Frank, in reading the description about that add-on, can the code track a double-click on a map area?

Hi Felicia,

In its current form it tracks single-clicks. To enable double-clicks to be tracked instead or separately from single-clicks would require some modification to the tracking code.

Best,

Frank

This is helpful. Thanks.
